Circling The Drain (TeacherxStudent Frerard)

Frank shakily placed the book back down on the table. He hated English. He hated the teachers and their Holier Than Thou attitudes. He hated being forced to explain his thinking on paper- it's really not that complicated, you should just get what he's saying without a three page argument. He knew he was going to hate this semester even more, as the clock struck midnight, signaling the official start of his first day of school. He glanced down at the page he had slammed down, still only half way through the assigned summer reading. All The Light We Cannot See. He picked up at the quote that had jolted the book from his hands, "This look?' Bastien says, and flourishes his fat hand. 'The way he's got nothing left? A German soldier never reaches this point. There's a name for this look. It's called circling the drain." He especially hates English when it forces self reflection.
