At the start of the summer of 1941,16-year-old London native Daniel Brown is uprooted from his home and sent across the ocean, along with his annoying kid brother Percy, in hopes of escaping the war-ravished England. When the boys arrive in the small town of Concord, Massachusetts to live with the charming Mobley family, the last thing Danny expects is to find love, especially not with a Jewish background, a queer past, and his only talents lying in playing the piano. That is, until he meets Jack -- the handsome, all-American boy, eldest of the Mobley children and a year Danny's senior. Falling in love that summer is easy for Danny and Jack, despite having to keep it a complete secret -- from everyone. But between outside social pressures, both boys' internal struggle to accept who they are, and war looming over everyone's head, not everything is as simple as it seems. Set against the backdrop of World War II and told through the perspective of diary entries, telegrams, and letters, this story explores the idea that despite the vast entropy of human cruelty, sometimes, even if all the odds are set against it, love can last and stay strong and true.
