Jewel Summers is a shy girl. She doesn't like to be seen or noticed, but can't help being the smartest girl in class, always being put in the spotlight. She also can't help that she has a burning passion for music, which for a girl who wants nothing more than to be invisible, isn't all that great. She wants to be noticed for her voice, for who she is. She feels like she can actually be free when singing.
Robin Green is one of the most popular girls in school. She enjoys getting attention, dressing herself up, and especially singing. That's what she's most known for. Not to mention, she's smart and great with conversation, easily making friends here and there. Yet nothing makes her feel more at home than letting loose while the music's playing. Letting the notes fly through the air without a care.
Then a music competition comes around. Jewel and Robin both sign up for it, determined to win. The two run into unexpected friendship, confusion, words, and boys. Robin faces what could possibly be the first defeat in her life, and Jewel begins to discover what it's like to have an identity.
