When Jamie Lou was fifteen she decided to take a sign language class as her high school language. She thought it would be cool to sign, and she wanted to learn something besides Spanish or French, which all her friends were doing. Ashley had an amazing life. She had lots of friends, a great boyfriend, and her life was on track. She wasn't the most popular, but she didn't care about that. She just didn't want to be at the very bottom. Her life was perfect until an accident that left Ashley deaf. She wants her life to be the same, so she still goes back to school. All of her friends are gone except for two. Her boyfriend dumps her. She feels as if her life has gone to crap. So, she decides to stop talking. Her family does not know what to do, and neither do her friends. They try to get her to talk constantly, through her hands of course, but she refuses to. Not even writing on paper.
