[A story I wrote for my senior literature class. We were supposed to 'appropriate' a writer's style (write with similar criticisms, themes, language style, etc.). This is supposedly in Charlotte Perkins-Gilman's literary style)]
The story depicts an Italian family post-war and the depression of a boy's mother which worsens with the arrival of abusive men in the family. The mother is sent to a psychiatric hospital in Switzerland (yes, this used to happen), and the son is left with his mother's farm and the sweet nostalgic smell of bread.
