"How can you believe in this garbage? I mean, you're a halfway intelligent woman," I said, my voice think with animosity.
She just shrugged, her eyes twinkling with excitement. She loved a good debate.
"I just have faith, Eli. I think the question is why you're so intent on discrediting my beliefs. My faith doesn't sway your opinions, so why should your cynicism infect my thinking."
"Because that cynicism is founded on facts, science. Haven't you ever heard of evolution? Or better yet, world hunger? I mean what kind of God lets millions of people die of hunger? Doesn't that bother you?"
"Eli, you're such a dick."
"Careful, bible thumper, Jesus can hear you..." "I know, and he probably agrees with me."
She slapped me in the shoulder, hard. I could see that as hard as I tried, I wasn't going to corrupt Neveah easily. I'd have to take my time.

Eli Temple is the furthest thing from good guy material as he could be. Between his sketchy job as a used car salesman and his penchant for alcohol and loose women, he lives his life in the morally grey zone. So when Eli's nana presents him with a dying request for him to join the Choir at a small Baptist church, he begrudgingly agrees and shows up. He is annoyed at first, until a beautiful and peculiar woman comes in, catching his eye. Will Neveah, the soprano covered in tattoos and jewelry, change his mind about God and Love? Or will he succeed in convincing the already alternative woman into ditching her faith for a life of adventure and hedonism with him by her side?
