"A friend of mine asked, "How do you write like you're running out of time?"
I responded, "How do waves wash onto the shore?"
They said, "They just do."
I said, "Exactly," winked, and walked away."
Seventeen. Only seventeen. I swam in the same of waves, wind, and rubbish from broken buildings. I wasn't ready to die, but what else did I have to lose? Dad left, mom died, James- James....
"James!" I yelled.
"Alex!" My brother called for me. Following his desperate voice, I looked over to my left and in the distance, I saw James reaching for me before being crushed by a wave ten times his size.
"James!" Hot tears streamed down my face, but you couldn't see them, as the water was already trying to drown me, splashing on and off my face. My vision became blurry as I feel something crash onto my back. My last words, if you could call them words through my rough voice, were none other than my younger brother's name.
I'm dying. I'm dying.
Those words repetitively played in my mind, convincing myself I truly was gone. That feeling: death.. I imagined it so much, it made that moment feel like déjà vu.
I fell unconscious.
