Avani Kealoha left the La Push reservation at thirteen to live with her mother in California then her native land of Hawaii. She grew up surfing with the locals and learning the native language, but when her mother meets an untimely death, she returns to La Push to live with her aunt- right across the street from her childhood friend, Caitlyn. They instantly reconnect as Avani struggles to heal from losing her mother, and learns the empathy Caitlyn expresses is due to the loss of her father. While she and Caitlyn instantly click, Avani also begins to form a relationship with the kind Jacob Black, who takes a liking to her and hangs around- despite his obvious feelings for Bella Swan. What's a girl to do when her crush is in love with another girl who is in love with another boy? Caitlyn Feiser has had a complicated past year. She was in a physical relationship with Embry Call until the beginning of last summer, and in the Fall, her father had taken her for a boat ride and Caitlyn returned covered in his blood, hysterically screaming "VAMPIRE!" This labelled her as the crazy girl by everyone, even the elders on the La Push reservation who had always treated her kindly.
