Azayakana Akai Honō no Ojo (Akai for short) is the princess of the Moeru kingdom, a peaceful, mountainous region that has been split between the four Elemental tribes. Famous for her brilliant red hair, people flock to the isolated capital just to try and catch a glimpse of it, while she lives a life of luxury within the palace walls. She has never left the capital, and has never cared to learn about her people.
Akai's perfect life is shattered when her father remarries, taking a beautiful woman, Rin, as the replacement for Akai's mother. Less than two months afterwards, Akai witnesses Rin shove her father off their balcony, sending him to his death at the bottom of the cliffs that surrounded the palace. As a result, she is driven from the palace and forced out of her life of luxury.
On the brink of starvation, Akai is saved by a young mercenary called Claw, who has more than one reason to hate royalty. Though she keeps her identity secret from Claw, they set out on a journey to get to know the four clans of Moeru.
Their fate rests with the legend of a king and four warriors, who were strong enough to create the kingdom.
