In a world where Artificial Intelligence and Robotics are the most powerful industries of the planet, things have taken a turn. The two industries have fused, creating a program to build the most realistic copies of living creatures. One such creation is Subject Beta, code-named "Dave Strider," a near-successful attempt to create an artificial human mind, the only flaw with Subject Beta's programming being the inability to autonomously feel emotion. Karkat was just there for "Take your Kid to Work" day. He got to tour the manufacturing plant, and see how the androids were made. He found a computer chip that would change his life in ways he couldn't imagine. This story is heavily inspired by "His Synthetic Pulse" by Literallyjaney. Just putting that out there. It's pretty good, so go read it if you want. I created the cover, but do not own any of the characters portrayed here. All of them belong to Andrew Hussie. No copyright infringement is intended.

[[BEFORE YOU READ: it's been years since this fic has been completed but I've recently begun a revisited/rewritten version of it on AO3 as well as here. Look for it on my page or here's the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/44269315/chapters/111327910 ]] Karkat mysteriously gets thrown into a universe different than the one he was expecting. The worst part is he was alone. For six long years he's gone, his friends accepted the fact that he might be dead. Everyone's moved on. But suddenly, the same beam of light that took him away, brought him right back, but Karkat isn't the same. He might never be the same.
