This is the story I'm writing for NaNoWriMo 2015. The goal: 50,000 word RAW draft written entirely in the month of November. Unlike most of my stories, which I prefer to edit before posting, I'm actually going to post updates to this at the end of each day in chapter-sized chunks. The idea behind this story is that a terrorist attack in the near future causes the US to go hyper-isolationist, to the point that it abandons Hawaii and Alaska to fend for themselves. They do, forming the United Pacific States (maybe with a few other island countries). Hawaii then goes on to turn itself into the new world police with stealthy, genetically modified cyber-soldiers. I'm marking this story as mature because there will be action scenes, and probably some interesting perspectives on nudity and relationships. I'm not planning on anything explicit, but this won't be a kids book. Validated winner at 50,040 words!

And on top of that, she had the zeds to deal with. Ghastly creatures that used to be human, carrying a virus that's spread through a constant hunger for flesh from the host, spreading through bites and scratches. It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. Grammar issues are present, particularly missing commas.) What do you do when you are one of the infected? The virus in my blood is trying to steal my humanity. It alters my very thoughts and reactions. It taunts me by tempting me with desires that it planted in my brain. These bloodthirsty desires would lead to my demise if I ever gave in. I have more in common with the zombies than with humans at this point. Even the fallen zombies accept me as one of their own. Blood is required to retain my grip on sanity, but the sweet-smelling blood from humans is a short path to madness. Human blood is to be avoided at all costs. Humankind around the world was driven close to extinction by the sudden appearance of the zombies, yet small groups of survivors constantly manage to appear and put my control to the test. -------------------------- This is a standalone zombie book. It has nothing to do with A Different Virus. I wanted to try a book with an easily irritated main character and a nutcase secondary character. This book has a slightly darker outlook at the beginning than my usual stories, but it has some humor further along. The story is set in the future, where children are trained from an early age, by the permission of their parents, (unless of course, they are orphans) to become Knights. They then become part of the military. Nina is such a child, who joined the V_ four years ago. She's infamous for her wild nature and blatant disregard of the rules and the Student Council. And then, by some blighted twist of fate, she finds herself a House Prefect. Enter Azerkin Schwann, suave, cool, mysterious and with a permanent train of fangirls. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, Nina finds a close friend in the drool-worthy Schwann. Everything is going on perfectly; except for a pack of man-killer cyborg wolves, an insanely powerful rival-in-battle, whose aim in life seems to be throwing challenge after challenge at Nina, and the Senior Troublemaker of the School's latest game :- 'Set fire to a pile of straw'. Well, that's not much, after all, what can a pile of straw do? Nothing, unless there's a stack of fireworks underneath. And that's the least of her worries when Nina's fallen head over heels for Schwann. This is a work of fiction, and the characters introduced are purely fictional. Any resemblance in name or character is unintentional. Just sayin' since this is basically my first story using normal names and settings. The story is currently a one shot. I may develop it further if there's a positive response from my readers. Positive, as in comments and votes.
