"C'mon, Lils! What can I do?" I thought for a moment. "Fine. I'll go out with you." James narrowed his eyes. "What's the catch?" "You have to be nice to Severus from now on..."

James loves Lilly.

When Lilly Evans rejects James Potter for the millionth time, James becomes desperate.

Having been close with Lilly's best friend, Areah, for a while, he goes to her for advice.

"Let's face it," she said. "Lilly despises you. If you're gonna convince her to go out with you, you're gonna have to be a little less James, and a little more... Severus."
