"He's been my friend since the beginning. No one else can see him. And that's fine. Darkness is my best friend, and that's all that matters."

Charlie knows him as Darkness: a monster-like creature that had saved her from her mother when she was little. She sees him as an angel of sorts, a saving grace meant to protect her at all costs. But that all changes after she turns sixteen. The creature she had come to know as her savior suddenly vanishes, and Charlie must fight her own psyche to realize that Darkness may have been nothing more than in her imagination. That is until she receives a recurring nightmare in which she begins to unravel Darkness' true self and motive.
