On a warm morning in the 1850's, Evangeline relaxes in her massive Missourian estate without a worry in the world. Evangeline's day collapses as her twin brother and father burst into the living room, chasing after the "family friend" because she did not fulfill her morning jobs, revealing the friend's true role in the house: a slave; brought into the Freebourne's family estate as their property. 

The event forever altered Evangeline's view on both the idea of slavery and her family, provoking her to run away with Jewel, and instead of the warm feeling of compassion toward her father and brother, a newer, colder perception emerged: hate. Although she still deeply cared for her flesh and blood, her feelings competed as she abhorred her family's principles. Her hate for her brother's Confederate opinions and her will to fight for freedom for all could drive her to take the lives of those opposed to her -including her twin brother- but does that really make Evangeline a killer?

When she views an expensive ring in a jewelry store, a guy pulls up in a blood-red car. She has no knowledge of who he is until she sees him snatch a bracelet. She tries to turn him in but he kidnaps her, and when she attempts to escape he lets her go but with an offer. He offers to mentor her in becoming a young criminal. The next day she discovers a mysterious channel on her TV. She starts watching it and soon realizes it's a news channel for criminals. She shows the channel to her best friend assuming nothing will go wrong, but her best friend threatens to turn the channel into the police. Ever since she saw the ring, met the man, discovered the channel, she knows what she has to do. She feels it inside of her, she has to commit a crime to satisfy something deep within her. If she decides to do this, she knows she can never look back. Will she find a dark passion she had deep inside her, or will she get in huge trouble with the law?

After a while, Evangeline realized that time was very limited when she discovered a secret cellar and a secret even darker inside it below their cozy home. After she discovered the hidden room, Eugene would start locking her in it for days at a time with the possibility of never letting her out again. It only gets worse when he and his cousin make threats to mutilate her if she ever tries to escape again, which only gives her one last chance to get out while she can and get it right.
