Everything has a secret. Some secrets can't be known by all. The world has a secret. It contains things that people can't even imagine in a dream. Creatures that do odd things. Behaviors that can't be explained. Locations that can't be found. Some of these many things could destroy all of humanity. Instead though, there is a scale. This scale must stay balanced and to keep it balanced, the Volecia have to be in charge. The Volecia is a group of mysterious beings who keep the world from falling into havoc using magical abilities. Humans don't know that the Volecia exist. They know nothing about the scale or the creatures.

Phoebe Frond is part of the new generation of the Volecia. She's learned a lot in the few years she's been part of it. Keeping the world balanced isn't too hard. Until disaster strikes. Something down in the Cukiterian (a beast prison) is opening portals from the Cukiterian to the human world and now the Volecia must capture the monsters that have escaped, fix all the things that have been messed with, and figure out what is opening the portals. But how is a group of teenagers with only a couple years of experience up their sleeves supposed to save the world?
