Thestrals and Thunderbirds

When Draco was young he had but one friend, a Thestral. They grew up together and learned to understand each other's body language to communicate. But when Draco has to go to Hogwarts he struggles to create new, human, friends. Real ones anyways. That and the pressure of being controlled by the Dark Lord begins to hurt him.

Harry Potter grew up with his parents in the country. He was loved and cherished but there was a problem. He had a lightning bolt scar from the dark wizard known as Voldemort. He had tried to kill Harry as a young child because of his powerful companion, the last of it's kind. A thunderbird.

Can they help each other? Or will it tear them apart?
