Collision

What indeed is collision? In it's most basic form? Is it the crash? The coming together? Is it the pure concept of inevitability as two units of mass pound into each other? What about in a when two ideas unite head on? What then? What now? Is collision an idea, or a concept? Is it a human conception, or merely an observance of nature?
