Layla Stone has just found out that she has to leave her hometown of Firestone, Texas. Layla, being the only child of a single-mother spy, was encouraged to keep a low-key profile. Ever since she could speak she was taught different languages by her mother's younger brother, who was only five years older than her. He was a language prodigy. Ever since she could walk, her tutor in any and all subjects spy-related, Mr. Face, as he liked to be called, not only taught her the basics and tricks to her mother's trade, but also was her martial arts instructor. Although her lifestyle was one that would have been expected to have been 100% hidden, her mother believed that in order for Layla to become a 'successful young woman' she had to go to school and learn how people talked to others. Layla was a loner until the seventh grade when Sel became friends with her. He brought out the best in her, she always thought, making her open up and discover her true talents. He introduced her to her soon-to be best friend Ash and the sister she never met, Alice. Sel was the only friend she ever let in on her family's secret. He came over everyday after school to learn with her. He eventually became a little more than a friend by the middle of 8th grade. They never had a chance to ask each other about it though. By then, Layla was preparing to move away. Her mother was MIA and her grandparents lived in the next town over. The only reasonable solution would be living with them. By leaving Firestone, Layla not only had to leave behind her friends and her home, she would also have to hide her spy qualities. Her grandparents were 'normal', no secrets hidden in her grandmother's jam jars or her grandpa' old cane,. Everything about them spoke 'normal'.
