1 part Ongoing The first few chapters of a manuscript I've been working on...
In the wake of their mother's death, sisters Tatum and Maddy are left to navigate their grief and figure out what life looks like in this new normal. 24-year-old Tatum is no stranger to pain. Her entire life has practically been underlined by it, starting with the loss of her father when she was just six years old. This time, however, she has her 17-year-old, half-sister Maddy to care for. Things begin to unravel when Maddy's father shows up out of the blue and says he wants custody of her, after years of mostly absence, broken up only by pain and heartbreak. Grasping for a sense of control she's not sure she's had in her life since her own father died, Tatum does things that threaten all the remaining relationships in her life, threaten her sense of self and all she has left. In an already confusing and tumultuous time, Maddy is left feeling scared and angry, like life has fucked her over, like she's doomed to become someone she doesn't want to be. Despite their collective experiences, the sisters have little to nothing in common. But following their mother's death, Tatum and Maddy will lose parts of themselves and each other, as the question is brought to the forefront - to grow together or grieve alone?
