Norman Ackerman is a "writer" who doesn't write. He's obtuse and stuck in his ways, all the while being a total sleaze. Periodically, he investigates compelling and sometimes notorious situations. He stalks people's lives and invades their privacy. What he gathers is what he hands over to his ghostwriter. He's not afraid to get his hands filthy, so picking faults with another's fate is his frequent chore. Even if he has to shadow numerous people for weeks on end, there is no stopping him until he finds his bestselling ending.

Due to a financial deficit, Norman prompts to hit the streets for his next work of chaos. A dainty yet cryptic woman stands out in the masses, and it takes no time at all for Norman to fall behind her heels.

Lux Beck, an independent artist, has been on the road for the entirety of her life. One could say she's lost, though she clearly enjoys the changes in her surroundings. She's a pure soul--sweet, courteous, and a friend to anyone in need. From afar, her kindness leaves Norman perplexed. He figured she'd be holding up her middle fingers and cursing the world, because how could any other person give their life to the road, the world? She wears freedom admirably.

When an anguished driver puts Lux's life in danger, Norman breaks his single rule. He timidly steps out of the dark to save her. Without questioning his intentions, Lux welcomes him on the journey he had been documenting for his upcoming novel. She looks at Norman with wonderment in her eyes, slowly awakening his conscience. His love for her will defeat his weakness for fortune--or everything will fall apart as he watches her walk away for good.
