"It may be true," he murmured feeling defeated.

"Oh please," she said slightly offended "You should know not to listen to school gossip considering you just lost your girlfriend to it."

He narrowed his eyes at her as a sting went through his heart. A false rumor had started, implying that he went around sleeping with other girls and his girlfriend, Louise Jaminson had decided it was time to end their relationship.

Both of them remained silent.

"Fine, you want to wait until lover boy tells you? Then have fun," venom sipped through his voice as he spoke his words. He was beyond mad "But don't come running back to me when you find out the supposed school gossip is true."

And with that he walked away leaving her in the middle of the hallway.

That was Marissa Carter a decade ago. Filled with naivety until she was left heartbroken, scarred and stripped (partially) of her dignity.

Now, 10 years later, with wounds that are yet to heal, she attends a party with her high school classmates and somehow she meets Beau Lancaster, an ever curious detective who is hell bent on solving the puzzle that is Marissa Carter. Ignoring the obvious attraction they have for each other Beau unravels the mystery but falls for Marissa.

But in the end would all the battles they fought; problems they encountered and lives that were lost pay off?
