Satsujin, a tenth grade girl from Japan, who recently moved to California, has been found dead. From the condition of the scene, it was labeled suicide. But Satsujin wasn't depressed. She left behind a flurry of friends, grieving parents, and a jumpy, skittish dog. She was happy, and as far as Nevaeh Mendoza knows, had no reason to do what she did.
Nevaeh had a gut feeling that suicide isn't all that happened the night Satsujin left the earth. But she brushed it aside, if it wasn't suicide, what else could it have been? What kind of killer would leave their murdered victim hung from the ceiling? But when Nevaeh visits Satsujin's house, she's given a diary. All it holds is a simple sentence, yet the sentence successfully messes with everything Nevaeh thought she knew.
