Maggie Keagan was just walking past the scene of the crime on the day her world ended. She was thrown into the Sky Box for a crime she didn't commit, and she blamed all of her misfortune on John Murphy, the asshole who got her into trouble.
When the Ark is in crisis and the population must be reduced, Maggie and all of the other prisoners are sent down to earth. Seeing this as a chance to restart, Maggie decides that going to Earth will be a golden opportunity for her to finally get revenge on John Murphy.

In doing so, they managed to sentence almost all of them to an untimely death that was almost inevitable. With the idea of freedom, Hailey knows that she is never safe and that if weaknesses are shown, someone will use them against her. Will she be able to overcome her emotional and mental walls, even if it means that she'd be vulnerable? Being on the ground will change Hailey in ways that the people on the ark would never expect.
