Children of the City in the Sky

"I'm not...the only one?" Maricella whispered in disturbance. She gulped as her mouth dried. The five folders shook in her nervous grip. She decided to lay the papers flat on the counter to avoid them falling out of her hands.

"Of course you're not." Jaiyana said in stern, hurtful tone. Her hijab created unnerving shadows to fall under her cheekbones intimidating Maricella to the bone. The piercing glare she was giving her wasn't helping either, especially with Jaiyana's iridescent amethyst eyes.

Eventually she swallowed her pride reaching across the white marble counter touching Maricella's hand as an action of comfort.

"I mean of course...we're not. Now-" She stood up suddenly as if the two had already shared a three hour long feel-bad-for-ourselves weep session. "I understand you must have questions but they're most likely going to be answered in what I'm about to say next: No, your life will never be normal again. Yes, your existence is puts the lives of your family and friends in danger. Yes, The Councilors will stop at nothing to kill you. And lastly no, I won't always protect you but I can show you how to control and expand your ability."

Jaiyana exhaled sharply as she stood completely still maintaining her cold stare. "But most importantly, now you know....There are others."
