Kayla and Oliver lived with their parents in a small town. Their lives were happy, until Kayla was kidnapped. Oliver lived 15 years in grief for his missing sister, Kayla lived 15 years in longing to go home. Kayla finally returns when she is 22 and Oliver is 23. Oliver is overjoyed at the return of his sister, too overjoyed to see the sorrow and pain she has been put through. Kayla soon faces mental issues, as well as physical ones from abuse. Determined to help his sister, Oliver plans to take her through the 15 years she lost, all happy memories. Oliver hopes that by doing this he can repair his broken sister, and maybe give her back the time she lost.

No I do not know about adoption or a life of a kid from first hand so I may get some things wrong. While not every foster/adopted kid is like North, Asher, or Ollie, it's still to help bring awareness to the situation that is affecting our world.
