It's summer and as Ponyboy gets out of school he realizes that this is the loneliest summer he's ever had, two weeks in and he's barely done anything, he keeps thinking about the friends he lost in the fall and how everything has changed since the summer before. Pony gets a call from Buck Merrill that turns things around for him, Dally's stuff has been left in his old room at the bar. As Pony searches through Dallas' things he finds many things but nothing as interesting as his old journals, he learns about Dallas' tortured past that lead him to be so cold and how maybe Dally wasn't who Pony thought he was...
