17 parts Complete Hideyoshi Takamichi is the school's heartthrob and is every girl's ideal boyfriend : with a height of 6 ft., good looks and a pleasing personality. He is the perfect guy, as most girls think but not for Tsugahara Chisako. Chisako thinks its troublesome to have such a popular guy to be a boyfriend with all the other girls getting envious and wanting his attention. Although she admits Takamichi is cool, it was never in her wildest dream to get close to him but things turn unexpectedly different when Takamichi overhears her talking about her views on not wanting a boyfriend like him. Thinking that Chisako is not interested in him, he befriends her and develops a unique closeness with her. At first, he merely thinks its fun teasing her without having to worry about her getting a crush on him, but he realizes his feelings for her changes when another boy in class, Masaki Ryouta, takes an interest in her. Also, Chisako is puzzled by Takamichi's treatment of her and tries her best to prevent from liking him because things might go bad for their friendship.
The title "Milk Coffee" was actually derived by the characters drink preferences. Chisako is fond of drinking coffee preventing her to "grow" (according to Takamichi) while Takamichi states he drinks milk everyday that's why he's very tall leading him to switch drinks with her in the story. Another is that, it portrays the individuality among the characteristics of the two which is compared to Milk and Coffee : Takamichi being the "milk" who is calm, playful and liked by many, while Chisako is considered the "coffee" who is strong, energetic and only a few people would really appreciate her true self.
