A fight to fit in. Saree is a rose, just like the rest of her people, yet she is born with a black one, and not the usual deep red every other Rosárum has. It is painful for her to adjust to her own dark beauty, while all of the other roses grow into striking red buds. The very night Saree earns her legs, is the same night she meets Ruben, a gentle and loving blossom of a man. As she and Ruben learn to hide within the human world, Saree finds herself becoming attracted to her best friend. She couldn't actually be falling in love with whom she had fought many battles with. With whom she had been protected by, again and again. Even if she was, and even if he returned the feelings, she was a black rose, and she would never be good enough for him.

The blood red eyes she has grown to love seem to follow her around every bend. That haunting color is seen with her eyes open or with her eyes shut. New friends, new love, new life. She goes from ballet flats to ball gowns, t-shirts to tiaras, in just a few short weeks.
