For Colby, the world ending was only a matter of time; he knew because as one of the archangels, God told him. He spent most of his celestial life observing humans from an apathetic distance, and the downfall of man was inevitable. What he didn't foresee coming, though, was her. She was confusing just as she was irritating: very much human and very much in his way. But he wouldn't have it any other way.
