Adrian Nichols is a young cadet in the Terran 5 Space Academy, aspiring to be an ace starfighter pilot. While he's out training, a large, unknown attack force sweeps across the planet of Terran 5 and destroys most of the cities, including city B-237 where the Academy is. The surviving cadets of what is now called The Shattering are transferred to the Terran carrier ship, the TCS Cydonian to complete their training and fight the invading force before it destroys life as they know it
