"I'm no entity, I'm no ancient power. I'm Eva, simply the daughter of Alpha. You can no longer control me. I refuse to follow your rules. I'm not one of you," I declared, my voice firm, yet laced with uncertainty.
They smiled, an almost knowing expression crossing their faces-as if they had already anticipated my words, as if they knew exactly how this conversation would unfold.
"This is why you're the chosen one, Eva," one of them spoke softly, their tone almost comforting. "You refuse to follow anyone's rules. You're not bound to any rules, you're destined to make them. And we're here to welcome you, not to control you."
Her calm demeanor only made me feel more foolish. I stood there, silently cursing myself for yelling, for making a scene. I felt like a child, throwing a tantrum when I should have understood better, even though I was twenty-one.
"I don't make rules. I don't want to make rules or force anyone to follow them. I just want my own life. I refuse to be a part of this Pack, and I refuse to be a part of you. If I'm to protect the realm, fine. But leave me alone for everything else," I muttered, my tone softer now, almost defeated.
She nodded slowly, her smile unwavering. There was a sense of certainty in her that made me uneasy. "We will never force you, Eva. But when the time comes, you will surrender. You're already bound to the great energy. There is no way your selfish feelings will go against your soul. You'll understand when the time comes. And the time is near."
Her words echoed in my mind, the weight of them pressing down harder than I expected. She was right. No matter how much I resisted, something inside me knew I couldn't escape what was already written.
