"Who hurt you?" He questions, staring deeply into my eyes

"W-what?" I ask, taken aback by his question.

"Who. Hurt. You?" He asks, slowly walking closer towards me

"N-no one." He was directly in front of me now.

"Bullshit." He spits. His rough hand grabs my chin and forces me to look directly into his beautiful eyes. I push his hand away from my chin and watch as his eyes darken and fist clenches.

I was scared. Scared of what he might do to me. After all, he was the most feared man in the world. People bowed down to him. He was the human definition of power but there were rules. Rules that had to be followed or he would kill.

Rule 1: Never look at him in the eye unless he gives you permission
Rule 2: Never lie to him
Rule 3: Never disrespect him

and I had just broken all three.

As I walk into the school, he spots me and immediately starts talking to me. I brush past him, ignoring him, but today is definitely not my lucky day... He grabs my arm firmly, stopping me, and turns me to face him. The pain on my face contorts his expression. "What's wrong, Emma? Lost your voice, lizard?" I don't look at him; my head is hung low once again. "When I'm talking, you need to look at me!" he shouts, lifting my chin so I have to meet his gaze. I look at him, but it's not with innocence; it's with anger. "Oh, look, Emma's angry, everyone!" he mocks. "Just leave me alone," I say, meeting his eyes as I pull my arm free from his grip and walk away. He stares at me, shocked, as do all the kids around us, not expecting what I just did.
