Kadie lives in a small apartment with her dad in a relatively dangerous part of town, there's plenty of crime and more than enough unsavory activities. It just-so-happens that a street fight gets out of hand, and it just-so-happens one of the participants end up on her fire escape critically injured. Mystery Man refuses to go to the hospital, and Kadie, who already carries the world on her shoulders, refuses to let him into the apartment. So she gives him two choices: either he can accept the blankets, food, and medicine she'll give him and stay on the fire escape, or he can take a hike.
