"Oh God, please don't kill me" I said, feeling more pressure from the knife at my throat. I whimpered and turned my head away, not wanting to look my killer in the eye just before dying.
Suddenly, the pressure was gone, replaced by a light touch on the side of my neck. Just as suddenly, I was flipped with my cheek now slammed against the wall. I heard the knife rip my clothes, and the air hit my bare back.
"What is this?" Said the very confused man in what sounded like a British accent.
"Y-you mean my birthmark?" I responded just as confused. He had to be the worst trained assassin if he had gotten distracted simply by looking at my back.
"Birthmark?" He asked softly, temporarily letting his grip loosen. I took advantage of this, turning around quickly, and with the pepper spray still in my hand, I put pressure on the button.
He screamed. I laughed, just before inhaling the spray, and goddamn did it hurt.

Serena is a young journalist, newly graduated, who is trying to publish the story she has been working on for four years, which also happens to be the story her mom was murdered investigating.
It is about the Collectors. A secret society of beings whose job it is to kill humans when it is their time. Serena will stop at nothing to find out the truth, both about the society of Collectors and also her mother's murder.
This proves harder than she thinks when she becomes involved in their very world. Serena soon discovers the whole truth, but the question is: what will she do with it?
Luc is the most successful Collector of his time, beating even the King's son. When the king tasks him with ending Serena's life, she proves to be quite the challenge, especially after seeing she has the same birthmark as the Royal Family.
Will Serena be the only human Luc can't kill? Or will his loyalty to the king be greater?
"THE AFTERLIFE CAN BE A REAL BITCH, RIGHT?"
"Henri-" I began, but Henri's hand snatched up mine and squeezed tightly enough to break bones. I bit my tongue to hold back a cry.
It was a warning.
"Maria didn't say anything about a couple of vampires wanting to meet with her," the green-haired warlock spoke after the area had stilled with electrified silence. I looked Henri's way, and that's really when our situation caught up with me.
Wait...
"Maria..." I murmured in remembrance, then sent Henri a glare. "Why are we here to see Maria Day? If you don't remember, let me remind you that I killed her friend. Hell, her master. She'll kill me when she sees me."
Henri had the nerve to laugh softly. "You're already dead, Antoinette."
"Thanks to you. There are other ways witches can hurt vampires, aren't there?" My eyes traveled shortly to the warlocks, Daniel and Zachary, and I shook my head. "She'll burn me alive! I'm not going in there."
"You're overacting," Henri said with a dramatic eye roll with a worth of a slap across his face. Lucky for him, I kept my hands at my sides.
This night was about to get dangerous...
