Ever since Skylar Whitmore was a young girl, all she could remember was pain and loss. When she was just a child, her father left, leaving her to tend for her alcoholic mother, who blamed Skylar for their divorce.

With every blow and rage filled threats, there is only one thing that is keeping Skylar together, and that is the thought of bluebirds. She has always loved the beautiful birds, and has always wanted to be free. But life isn't always easy, and when Skylar also has turned to alcohol and drugs, freedom has never seemed so far away.

With Skylar veering towards a path much like her mothers, it seems like her life will always contain drunken nights, and pain filled days.
But when the new substitute teacher turns out to be someone from her past, Skylar's world is about to be turned upside down.
