Jesse McCree has always been somewhat of a mystery to Y/N; acting warm and welcoming to every agent in the newly reformed Overwatch. When it came to them, however, all they got was the cold shoulder for unknown reasons. It wasn't until a last minute mission to the bitter icy lands of Russia and a silly bet that Y/N realized the real reason McCree has treated them so coldly. This is a slowburner read that I started on my Overwatch x Reader story. I'll be posting two bonus chapters in this story that I didn't post in the other story. Enjoy reading! Sidenote: There is nudity in this if you count underwear as being nude (no smut). Reader is also referred to as they/them. I don't own any of the Overwatch characters because if I did, then we would have Zenyatta lore. *This story was written before McCree's name change. Genji has worked for Blackwatch ever since he was murdered by his own brother, being one of their highest ranking officers. However, after Genji makes a drastic mistake in an important mission, Commander Reyes decides it's best to demote him - all the way back to Novice. While struggling to deal with his anger, feeling betrayed and useless, Genji gets assigned a new mission to show he can, in fact, follow Reyes' orders: he is to welcome a Rookie to Blackwatch and watch over him for his first days. Regardless of Genji's rudeness, the Rookie is determined to be kind to the cyborg. He even seems to worry for Genji's wellbeing; it is something Genji isn't used to, and his feelings about it contradict everything he thought he knew about himself. He doesn't know when it happens, but the programmed omnic Rookie suddenly turns into the one person Genji can't live without.

Genji has five days to get from Nepal to Hanamura to catch his brother before he disappears again. He runs into a few members of Overwatch as well as an old mentor, who he presumed was dead. Characters aren't mine but the story idea belongs to me. Art doesn't belong to me!
