She had no other choice. She had not planned for it to go this far, especially since she had not dared imagine she'd survive this long.
When the tattered remains of her brother returned home from the battle field in a ply wood box, Emersyn thought she had seen the worst the war could do.
Then she met a boy, a soldier so sweet and bright. The war was bad, yet it brought him to her. Then it took him away.
She vowed she would see the end of the war, that she would kill those men that killed her brother and the boy she could have loved. It was a fools bargain.
When she enlisted, she knew if a bullet didn't kill her, disease, or starvation would. Not to mention the death at the hands of her brothers in arms if they found what she was.
Despite what she was on the outside, she had a warrior soul that had earned her acclaim on the battlefield under the alias of Atlas Westerland, a sneaky farmers son. The name an ode to the boys she had lost.
When she is discovered by her new commander, it is not death she is given but a proposition.
