Nina Zvahl is one of a million children in Ru'an. Yet, she is the only one that The Elders see worth saving. Nina must stay with her father and his wife. Both of which are far from her old home in the city. Her mother, her real mother, insists this is the best, even though she hasn't spoken of my father since the whole battle thing. Nina feels as if she is just a small child, at least until she walks into the forest.
