He once told me, “Fireflies can grant people wishes. If you catch a thousand fireflies, and set them free all at once, you will get one wish."

Seventeen year-old Susannah is diagnosed with Wilson’s disease. Her body cannot release copper at a normal rate, and when the copper storage capacity in her organs exceed, it causes severe damage to her liver. Her only chance of survival is undergoing a liver transplant, but no one in her family is a match. When the hospital finally finds a donor, Susannah’s illness had already spread through her body, and gotten so bad that there is only a minimal chance for her to survive the transplant. However, if she doesn’t go through the operation, she has no hope of staying alive.

He once told her that if someone catches a thousand fireflies, they can have one wish. He never dreamed that he would be needing a wish, more than anything. As the days of her operation draws closer, he fills up an empty jar with fireflies, promises and most of all, hope. If fireflies can really grant wishes, all he needs, and all he will ever ask for is this one wish. Just one wish.
