All it took were five seconds for Max Henson to realize that the dream of coming home to the love of his life was shattered.

It took him forever to calm his racing heart and to stop the tremor in his hands before he got up the nerve to knock at HER door. Max was or rather had been a Navy SEAL for god's sake and now he was fucking scared of coming back to the only woman, who mattered.
To be honest, Max was terrified, because all he ever wanted was Josie Benett.
Max prayed to God that Josie remembered his promise to her, but it had been fucking 5 years.

He still remembered absolutely everything about Josie and a small smile made its appearance on his lips. She was the only one, who got that kind of reactions out of him.

Max could hear footsteps coming closer to the door and he sucked in a calming breath. However, it did not help at all as the door opened and Josie's beautiful emerald green eyes looked in confusion at his face.

It felt like a punch to the gut and believe me Max had received a lot of them, but nothing had hurt more than Josie's puzzled look right now. It was almost like she could not remember, who he was.

But that was fucking impossible, right?

"Can I help you, sir?", her sweet voice asked him and it was in this moment that Max heart shattered. A heart that had always just beaten for Josie.
