Najam Sethi was approved as the unanimous choice to be the next PCB chairman at its Annual General Meeting on Thursday.

A source close to development had earlier said that ICC chief executive Dave Richardson will also attend the meeting in a bid to convince Pakistan to not file a case with the ICC disputes resolution committee against the BCCI.

Earlier, while speaking to the media Shahryar hinted at Sethi's appointment as the next PCB chief and reiterated that he will not contest election for the aforementioned post after completing his tenure.

"Perhaps pre-empting the situation, Sethi managed to get this resolution passed which basically confirms that he is very popular in the cricket board", an insider is quoted by PTI.

Despite not playing a full-fledged bilateral series against Pakistan since the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, the arch-rivals have played each other a number of times in the ICC events, with the most recent coming at the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup.

The second resolution was adopted for a Pride of Performance award for Sethi for his significant contribution in Pakistan's cricket especially staging of PSL's final in Lahore.

The PCB chairman also thanked all members for their support in holding the Abdul Hafez Kardar School Cricket Championship and Fazal Mahmood Club Cricket Championship across the country.

Like many other board officials in the past, BCCI's acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary too made it clear that the decision to play Pakistan in a bilateral series rests exclusively with the government.

He emphasised on the need of developing new cricket academies around the country. The PSL which will host its third season next year will most likely see four matches held in Lahore and another four in Karachi.

The AGM also honoured best officials of Pakistan cricket and rewarded them with cash prizes.
