I came back to this and re-read it and let's just say the first chapter had me tramatised. Let's just say this was written before the reveal of Pink.

Steven Universe, on a mission with the Crystal Gems, finds a large black gemstone with wave like patterns in the colors of fire. He shows it to the gems, who've surprisingly 'never' seen such a gem before, and with a bit of convincing, allow him to take it home.
