"People like Alexander... they don't have precious items or belongings because they had nothing to begin with. They find no comfort in material desires.

"But they have stories. They have secrets, things that they take to their graves and beyond. These matter to them because they are memories, just like photographs or letters matter to us. Alexander's secrets are his memories, his precious belongings from a life most of us could never know. It hurts him to remember, but he wouldn't let go of them for the world because they remind him that he got out. They remind him that he's still alive and he still matters."

The title is taken from the famed letter Alexander Hamilton wrote about the St. Croix Hurricane of 1772.
