"Pfft, mermaids? Dante, get real. There's no such thing!"
"Gene, shut up!" I growled. "I wasn't talking to you."
Gene rolled his eyes and walked over to his dumb "Shadow Knight" friends, Sasha and Zenix. Ugh.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, Dante, but for once, I'm with Gene." Travis admitted.
"Wha- Travis?!"
"Sorry, it just seems fake."
"If they were human, they would've floated back up, wouldn't they?" I tried to help my case.
"C'mon, Dante, let's just get you a drink, you're probably dehydrated."
"Wait, Dante, hold on."
I turned around to see Aaron. "What?"
"I can probably help your case. I found something when I was snorkelling a few weeks back."
"What did you find?"
He brought out his phone, and went to his photos. He showed me a picture of a silhouette of a feminine creature, swimming. It looked like... a mermaid.
"Woah, see, Travis, look!"
He took a "good" two second look. "How do you know it's not fake, hm?"
Aaron scrolled up, to show that it was taken at Phoenix Drop Bay Beach.
"Oh... oh geez... um..." Travis looked surprised. "Wait, how did yo-"
"Waterproof case and screen protector."
"So, the legend is true."
I looked at Aaron, and back to Travis. "...What legend?"

I step towards the sound and find two green eyes staring up at me belonging to a black cat. It's coat drenched and it's whiskers drooping low. Like it's frowning. Even in my damp mood I feel sorry for the little animal. "You don't have a home, little guy?" I ask, squatting to see it better. Did it just shake its head!? I blink a few times and sigh. I'm probably seeing things. It's been overwhelmingly negative lately. I reach a hand for the feline and it corresponds, tucking its head under it. I pet it's wet coat and stare at it as it closes its eyes. I can't leave such a pitiful thing next to the dumpsters and cold rain to be frozen alive or ravished by stray dogs. So I do what every human being would do in my situation, I take it home. And that was possibly the stupidest thing I've ever done. *** This is a story about a girl named Lucky. But of course she's everything but lucky. One day she comes across this odd feline who acts strangely like a human. Maybe he is really a human and Lucky has got her hands into a whole lot of trouble.
