Sitting in her room, I look at the picture taken 10 years ago. It's torn and fading.
Dated- 5th May 2007. Time- 15:30:08. Two girls- Mary and Carrie Fergusson spending their special moments on their family farm. Mary was holding Carrie Anne in her arms who was seated on the fences; Mary was pouting at her. Carrie was giggling. Whenever Carrie looks at it, tears well up in her eyes remembering her sister.

"I can't remember anything." she says while crying.

I gulped. Is this what I was supposed to hear from her? It has been months after that accident and I'm trying hopelessly to get her memories back.

She's lucky to have survived. Most children of her age would have died of haemorrage. The accident had left a deep impact on her. Would she recover? was the million dollar question.

Everyday there would be thousands of patients who would come here. We would everything in our hands to save them. Our profession was challenging one. It tested our skills, our bravery. Everything was put to the test. Infact life was a test, wasn't it?

"One day you will Carrie." I tell her, my voice not sounding confident. I cross my fingers hoping for a miracle to take place. When nothing works, miracles are what we look forward to.

It's surprising isn't it? That how an accident can change a person's life.

Forever.....

WORK IN PROGRESS‼️ ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ── There was no noise; I was at peace, and ironically, the stone-cold pavement never seemed warmer as my blood oozed out of me and around me like a painted canvas. I was slowly losing consciousness, but my mind never seemed happier now that I was dying. The white walls with big bright lights did not resemble heaven; in fact, it was quite the opposite. I thought I had died. When I came to, I found myself in this strange place, disoriented and confused. I looked around and found another five pairs of eyes looking at me with the same emotion swirling in their gaze. Now, 15 years later, I train with these girls. Our makers take care of us, feed us, and make sure we are clean, healthy, and fit. Some of us never had that; that's probably why it took so long for us to realize we were being used. The dirty work they made us do, none of us questioned it. How could we when we were taken off the streets? For a chance at normalcy, we settled for anything, even if that meant blurring the lines of right and wrong. After a mission gone haywire, we started noticing, and now we strike back to take our voices and reclaim the power that was used on us as a way to control us. After all, they are the ones who trained us; we are just returning our long-overdue favour. ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ── Rankings : Featured in Mystery-thriller #5 in Mystery-thriller on 7/12/24

I frowned, thrown off "Do i...remember?" "Do you remember..." she starts but her voice falters. She glances down at the sand, biting her lip debating whether to even continue. She then takes a shaky breath and finally looks up. Eyes locking with mine " do you even remember how you got it?" Her question hits me like a slap. I open my mouth, then close it, my brows furrowing as I force my brain to rewind. How did I get it? Nothing. Not a single clear memory. She steps closer, her voice trembling, but the edge of anger sharpening her words. "Or when? Or where? Or for what reason? Or what it even means?!" I flinch at her tone, but I can't answer her. I try. God, I try.. I look down at the sand beneath my feet, forcing myself to dig through every memory, every hazy night out, every stupid decision I might've made-but nothing. Not a single moment of how I got it surfaced. I let out a frustrated breath and rake a hand through my hair, feeling the panic rise like bile in my throat. When I finally lift my head to speak, Ashley's already staring at me, and I can tell-she knows my answer before I say a word. "You don't remember," she says softly, nodding like she expected it all along. __________________________________________ Crazy thing happened...Three years ago, a tragic accident left Ashley scarred and shattered. Have you ever met someone who alters the course of your life? For good or for bad, they've come in, given and taken, and then- BOOM! Your life was never the same. There's always a change, an altering of reality. When you meet those people, the reality that you've known your whole life is suddenly gone and a new one has taken its place. When those moments happen, there's no going back. You can try to return to the way things were but nothing, and I mean nothing, can take you back to exactly how it was. That's what happened to us. I think that's why we're still trying so desperately to get back to some sort of normalcy. Four years later and we're still on the ground, crawling, in search of the happiness that was lost that June. Summers will never be the same. Midnight walks through my neighborhood will never be the same. Field parties with bonfires and loud music will never be the same. I still don't know why you left and what lead you to the decision you made. What I do know is that we're here. We're alive and we're pushing forward to the future. A future that you're not a part of. But in some ways, I'm glad you're not a part of it. I just wish it wasn't like this. *** TRIGGER WARNING*** SA, abuse, suicide, substance abuse, and mental illness. This is a complete story that is much like life; fast, full of surprises, and not always how we want it to be. This has been a project of mine for over three years. It was self-published on Amazon, but after some issues in publication, I decided to just upload it on here. I hope you fall in love with these characters like I have. The friends in this story are trying to make names for themselves, figure out who they are, who they can trust, how to love, and how to separate themselves from a restrictive community. As in any coming of age story, they will experience growing pains... but will they survive them before its too late? PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.
