Valkyrie lives in a world that stopped functioning long ago. World wars are common, and peace is not. Food is even less.  
   Orphaned by a mysterious plague known as the Crystal Plague, she and the other Coals struggle to survive in a world that is clearly against them. The plague has five stages.
Stage One: Headache, Chill, and Fever
Stage Two: Vomiting and Hallucinations 
Stage Three: Infected bodies get patches black as coal all over them. Also, their bodies temperatures sour over 100°(F)
Stage Four: Terrible pain that causes them to go insane and attack anything near them.
and Finally,
Stage Five: Their whole bodies turn into crystal.
