The horrified expressions on the two men's faces made Ian wonder what was so gruesome that made them contort their faces in such a way.  

Looking down towards his chest, he saw a dart lodged in his flesh, and upon removal, saw it entered about two inches in. 

As the blood trickled out of the new wound at a steady pace, the detective's vision started to blur, whether it was due to the blood loss or something within the dart, Ian didn't know, but he was already drifting into a state of unconsciousness. 

The last thing he saw before he closed his eyes, was the silhouette of a man moving towards him.
