In the future of Illea, the queens rule. And only the queens. Men of royal blood come and go for one purpose. To create an heir. 

This way of living has never been a problem for Illea. For they've only had female heirs.  Until now. Queen Amberley Schreave is blessed with a baby boy. Prince Maxon Schreave. The first and only male successor to the throne 

But the law won't allow it and Amberley does not want to be the one to change the law. So a competition is sent out to find a female successor who's worthy to lead like a man and as a women.  

Maxon must watch from behind the scenes as 35 girls pile into the palace on his 18th birthday and take away his birth right. But suddenly it's worth it when a certain red head comes storming into the palace. And into his heart.
