In a world where your survival depends on your external beauty, Vivvian Graves is one point below the cut-off.  With the knowledge that she can contract the virus and die at any point of her life, she chooses working with her government over hard labor. She's a government sanctioned consort for young men who don't know how to interact with women, because each generation has less and less people who are deemed safe to reproduce.  

    She has to teach a shut-in scientist how to love, while she desperately hopes he finds a cure for the virus that plagues her existence.
