Birthdays are supposed to be filled with fun and games, and for a girl, her sixteenth is supposed to be one of the most special.

But what happens when you receive a gift that you never wanted to get in the first place?

For Emily Crawford, that's exactly what happened. It wasn't a nice gift, all wrapped up with a pretty bow with wrapping paper to tear off: it was something that made her life a living Hell. And perhaps the worst part is that she can't get rid of it. No gift exchanges, no store credit... Just the World's Worst Gift, which she'll be stuck with for the rest of her life.

To make things even more complicated, Emily meets Ryan: a hot young guy that just moved to town and appears to have a thing for her, just like she does for him.

What happens when her "gift" gets in the way, showing her something that she desperately wishes she never saw in the first place? Love is complicated enough without throwing supernatural bonds and powers into the mix, but in this case, Emily has no choice.

Getting caught between a rock and a hard place is never fun, and in this case, it could be deadly...

Thanks to JazzyXD for going ahead and making the cover and for giving me a base for the synopsis! Her help has been greatly appreciated.

The Darkness in the Light by djscloud
25 parts Complete
For over a hundred years, humanity has lived in fear of the monsters that roam the streets, lurking in the drains below. Women and their daughters hide, protected in their homes, while men take their sons through the world, teaching them the responsibilities of having a family to feed and dangers to avoid. No one leaves the home unless it's essential, and most of the world prefers it that way. Until one girl spends her days perched on her window seat, looking down at the world below and dreaming of a different life. Her eyes are always drawn to the dark, ominous drains in the street, the ones that often blink open to swallow and person whole. One day, that person is her little brother, snatched right in front of her from their arms of their father and gone forever. When a person is snatched, they never return, and life goes on without them. But she can't accept that. Breaking all the rules, all the things she's ever known, she braves the world outside her little townhouse and goes on a mission into the darkness to find her brother. Only, it's soon her that becomes the one lost to the drains. To survive she must rediscover her world, and in the process, rediscover herself. She will be reunited with old friends, gain new ones, find out deeper secrets about her past than she ever could have imagined, and learn that the world is even more corrupt than she always thought. *** This story contains sexist ideology, mention of cheating, some gruesome scenes, and a whole lot of monsters and darkness. It isn't overly mature... there isn't much explicit language or sexual scenes, but there is a bit of violence, so just keep that in mind... and despite all that negativity, ENJOY!

The Hallucitect

17 parts Complete Mature

What would you do if you could make someone else see anything that your mind could conjure up? Would you make them see their long dead grandmother? The Devil? Or would you replace their entire sense of reality and put them in a totally bizarre dreamscape that you control. Crowley has this special gift. He doesn't know why he has it or how he got it, but he has it just the same. First he learned that he could interface with people and access their memories like looking through an old scrapbook. Then he learned that he could alter a person's sense of reality. He can use his gift to scare someone to death if he wants to; and he really wants to, it gives him a certain kind of rush. He prefers his victims to be a certain type of person though, someone who deserves to die, like his sexually abusive grandfather. That was his first victim. Getting someone to kill themselves gives him his rush, but it is addicting like a drug, and the more he does it, the stronger his desire is to do it again, and again, and again. He calls himself a Hallucination Architect or simply a Hallucitect. Mature Content (Ages 17+) Contains frequent use of strong language and depictions of violence and sexual situations.
